On Tuesday 8 January 2008 Sr Catherine Prendergast and members of the Mission Commission gathered to welcome Her Excellency Ms Catherine Mujigai Mwangi, Kenyan Ambassador to Ireland, and her First Secretary, Mr Richard Lemoshira, to Dunardagh.

Her Excellency, who has only been in Ireland since November, spoke of the warm welcome of the Irish people and and said she felt very much at home here even after such a short time. 

She also spoke of the similarities between the Kenyan and Irish people. Both have compassionate hearts, she said, remarking further on her experience of the concern and support which she received from Irish people on account of the violence after the recent Kenyan election.

Both of the distinguised guests showed a lively interest in the works of the Daughters of Charity in Ireland and in Kenya. 

Sr Anita Hubrich, who is due to return to Kenya soon, was also able to give her first-hand knowledge and experience of the Kenyan Health system and to explain concerns in relation to people with HIV/Aids.
