A vocations culture…at last PDF Print E-mail

vocations_frontby Andrew O'Connell

Three years ago I started work as the communications director for the Presentation Brothers with a special responsibility for the promotion of vocations. That was 2006. This is 2009. Has anything changed in that period? Is the situation better or worse? When I started I recall that a very common reaction was bemusement. Especially from those within the church! Three years ago vocations ministry was very much a ministry at the margins.

by Louise McEvaddy D.C.

sandtpy_frontSand Therapy is a unique form of psychotherapy developed by Dora Kalff a Swiss based Jungian analyst and was a student of Jung. It was modelled on the original work of Margaret Lowenfield who developed the ‘World Technique’ of sand play with children. Sand therapy is based on the theory of C. G. Jung. While the technique of sand therapy was not explicitly mentioned in his ‘Collected Works’ he does describe his way of working with sand at the lake shore near his home. (C.G. Jung 1995)

No need to fear PDF Print E-mail

by Pat Collins CM

no_fear_frontThis is an excerpt from Reducing stress and finding peace (Veritas 2002)

Jesus believed that God's providence embraces evil and transforms it, much as the oyster transforms the irritating presence of grit within itself, into a beautiful pearl. No matter what weaknesses people have, what mistakes they make, or what sins they commit, they are integrated into God's plan and embraced by Divine providence.

Doubt (2008) PDF Print E-mail

by Eugene Curran CM

doubt_frontEugene Curran CM reviews Doubt, a movie directed by John Patrick Shanley from his stage play of the same title.

‘View without prejudice’; it’s not something that you can do easily with this film.

Although it is set in 1964 in the Bronx, New York, it is a film that is so pertinent to today and to today’s Church and one of its most public crises that you cannot remain distant from its subject matter.

Who do men say I am? PDF Print E-mail
by Pat Collins CM

christ_front.jpgWhen Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets." (Matthew 16:13-19)

This incident occurred at a turning point in the life of Jesus when he decided to end his ministry in his native Galilee in order to head South to Jerusalem, and his eventual passion and death. Caesarea Philippi was an entirely Gentile city founded by Philip the Tetrarch. It contained many pagan temples devoted to such divinities  Pan, Caesar, and Baal.
