slideshow.jpgWelcome to Begin.ie, the vocations website for the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in the Irish Province. If you would like to work with us as a volunteer or if you are considering becoming a Daughter of Charity, please look around and you'll see who we are and what we do.

The Daughters of Charity are a world wide community of 21,000 women living and working in 93 countries who serve God in persons who are poor and needy. The challenge for us as Daughters of Charity in the 21st century is to reflect on the Gospel through the eyes of St Vincent de Paul and St Louise de Marillac, who in the 17th century modelled a way of service in imitation of Christ.

Two centuries later the Daughters of Charity came to Ireland. Since then the Daughters of Charity have expanded and diversified their services. Over the years they have withdrawn from some works and undertaken new ones in response to changing needs. Over the past twenty five years, Daughters of Charity left Ireland to initiate and foster the development of a now thriving Nigerian mission. To-day Daughters of Charity continue to respond to requests to serve in mission lands as far away as Fiji Island and Kenya.

At the present time in Ireland Daughters of Charity work in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Knock, Limerick, Belfast, Drogheda and in Carnew, Co Wicklow.

A visit to our Websites will give a glimpse of the various types of Services Daughters of Charity are engaged in up and down the Country. The extent of these works is made possible because of committed colleagues and a core group of over 800 or more volunteer workers, together with a network of Voluntary and Statutory bodies with whom they collaborate.

The Daughters of Charity enable people, especially people who are poor or disadvantaged to take responsibility for their own lives through education, health care programmes, social and pastoral services and a belief in themselves as unique individuals with hope, joy and a purpose in life.

Volunteers are always welcome, and if you are interested in work with meaning, and you'd like to do some short or long term voluntary work here in Ireland or abroad, then this is where you can find out all about it. We provide some information from countries that we have established contact with and which we know are prepared to take international volunteers.
